The Pleasant Oaks Gem & Mineral Club and the Dallas Gem & Mineral Society plan field trips monthly to a number of local sites.  Frequent field trips include such stops as the North Sulpher River for fossils, several East Texas location such as Lake Livingston/Crockett looking for petrified palm wood, to a gravel quarry near Oklahoma City where petrified wood and Alibates flint are found, and out of state trips to the likes of Arkansas looking for quartz crystals and Colorado looking for minerals.

The pictures below are from a Lake Whitney trip.  Twenty two people found ammonites, echinoids, and a variety of other interesting fossils.
