Pleasant Oaks Gem & Mineral Club of Dallas, Texas

Our 2008 Show

The 2008 Pleasant Oaks Gem and Mineral Club show, the 41st annual Fall Festival of Gems will again be held at the Ellison-Miles Geotechnology Institute (EMGI) on the campus of Brookhaven College on Saturday, 20 September (10 AM to 6 PM) and Sunday, 21 September (10 AM to 5 PM).

The show offers an opportunity for the club to promote rockhounding to the general public. The club also invites dealers from all over the nation to come and present gems, minerals, jewelry, fossils, tools, etc. for sale. Club members and dealers set up display cases where they can display some of their personal collections for everyone to enjoy.  In addition, the club offers demonstrations of craft techniques, a silent auction, hourly door prizes, and a grand prize drawing for an Amethyst Cathedral at the end of the show.  The club also offers special activities for young rockhounds.  The popular Children's Mine provides young children the opportunity to search through a trough filled with tumbling media for crystals, polished rocks, and mineral specimens.  Every child leaves with a sack full of treasures.  The EMGI staff will have special presentations to help scouts earn their Geology badge.  Scouts and their leaders in uniform receive free admission.  Teacher led classes will also receive free admission
